Literacy Narrative

I was not read to very often as a child, but I was heavily encouraged to read by myself. I read very frequently and enjoyed books such as “The Mouse and the Motorcycle” most of the books by the author Roald Dahl and the Harry Potter Series. I do not have children currently, but if and when I ever do, I would most likely read to them very often. I would also share books from my past with them. A personal favorite of mine is the “Fantastic Mr.Fox”.

Depending on what my objective for reading at school is, I will either skim text, or read it to its entirety. When searching for a specific piece of information, such as a date or name, I will skim a text. If I need to learn and understand a concept or idea, I will read an article to its entirety.  Aside taking Cornell notes, and using Venn diagrams I have not learned any text comprehensions strategies. I have always enjoyed reading books. As a child I read was a fan of the author Roald Dahl, in middle school I was a fan of the book series “Percy Jackson and The Olympians”. In more recent times, I have found that I enjoy reading web comics, and the occasional news article. I also enjoy reading blogs, and message boards.

I think that reading well played a huge role in my middle and high school success. It was necessary to properly complete many assignments such as research papers, science projects, and for studying. I feel that reading will play just as large a role in my college success as it did in my middle and high school success if not more. The one difficulty I experience while reading is difficulty . I am not a first generation college attendee, but if and when I graduate, I will be the first in my family to do so.
